According to reports by The Independent and other foreign media outlets on June 29, U.S. President Donald Trump recently responded to anti-China accusations during an interview with Fox News. When controversial anchor Maria Bartiromo claimed that China “steals intellectual property” and “launches cyberattacks,” saying the U.S. “should not trust China,” Trump refuted her by stating that the U.S. had done similar things in the past.

The interview was aired on June 29 local time on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures, during which Trump touched on issues such as China-U.S. trade and tariffs. He said, “We get along very well with China.”

During the program, Bartiromo brought up allegations including “Chinese hackers attacking U.S. telecom systems,” “China stealing intellectual property,” and other U.S. accusations related to fentanyl and COVID-19. She asked, “How can you negotiate with obvious ‘bad actors’ and trust them on economic issues?”

When Bartiromo followed up by asking, “Is that how the world works?” Trump replied, “That’s how the world works. It’s a dirty world.”

The Independent interpreted Trump’s remarks as an implication that the actions the U.S. accuses China of are, in fact, things the U.S. itself has done as well.

China has repeatedly responded, refuted, or clarified the accusations made by the U.S. government.

Regarding China-U.S. economic and trade relations, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce addressed the issue on June 27, stating that after the London talks, both sides have maintained close communication. With official approval, details of the framework have recently been further confirmed.

According to the spokesperson, China will lawfully review and approve qualified export applications for controlled items, while the U.S. will lift a series of restrictive measures against China.

The spokesperson added that China hopes the U.S. will work in the same direction, implement the important consensus reached during the June 5 phone call between the two presidents, strengthen the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism, reduce misunderstandings, enhance cooperation, and jointly promote healthy, stable, and sustainable development of bilateral trade relations.
